Carmel Gat’s chocolate sausage

Ingredients

1 cup of sugar
Half a cup of cocoa
Half a glass of milk
A quarter of a glass of wine
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon rum extract
100 grams of margarine/butter
500 grams of biscuits

Preparation

Mix sugar and cocoa in a pot and add milk, wine, vanilla and rum. Heat on the stove while stirring the mixture.

When the batter comes to a boil and the sugar melts, remove from the heat and melt the margarine in the mixture.

Crumble the biscuits and add them to the chocolate mixture. Place the dough on a sheet of baking paper (on a plate or tray) in the form of a narrow roll and put in the refrigerator for a few hours. Slice into thin slices and serve.

Carmel Gat (39)

Carmeli, her friends call her 'Caramel', might not be a great cook but she loves food - quality food and simple food.

Chocolate sausage is a dish that has been passed down in our family. Our grandfather, one of the founders of Kibbutz Be’eri - where Carmel grew up - used to make chocolate sausage with his grandchildren and we all enjoyed eating it together. Carmel is the eldest granddaughter, and she and her grandfather had a special connection - a great love that lasted until his last day. Carmel was kidnapped from Kibbutz Be’eri, and we are waiting for Be’eri to return to being a place of family meals and sweet memories, where we will sit together with Carmel, as a family, over a simple and good chocolate sausage.
